In a strong showing for India’s aviation sector, Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) continued to strengthen its position as a key logistics and cargo hub in the calendar year 2025. The airport recorded steady cargo growth of 5%, handling a total of 520,985 metric tonnes of freight, compared with the previous year — a clear sign of rising demand and expanding trade activity.

Setting New Benchmarks

BLR Airport wasn’t just content with annual growth. On 7 August 2025, it achieved a new all-time single-day cargo throughput record of 2,207 metric tonnes, showcasing its capability to manage high-volume exports and imports seamlessly.

Expanding Connectivity and Reach

Improvements in its cargo network backed the airport’s strong performance. By the end of 2025, BLR Airport was connected to 37 cargo destinations, supported by 15 domestic and international cargo airlines. This enhanced connectivity has enabled more robust trade links with major global markets.

On the exports side, key markets included:

  • Chicago
  • Singapore
  • London Heathrow
  • Frankfurt
  • Leipzig

While major import sources came from:

  • Shenzhen
  • Shanghai
  • Frankfurt
  • Hong Kong
  • Singapore

Diverse Cargo Mix Drives Growth

A diverse mix of goods fueled the uptick in cargo volumes. These included:

  • Agri-perishables (such as fruits and vegetables)
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Automotive parts and spares
  • Electric and electronic goods
  • E-commerce shipments

These segments have played a vital role in reinforcing the airport’s logistics capabilities.

Infrastructure Developments Supporting Capacity

BLR Airport’s growth didn’t happen in a vacuum — strategic investments in cargo infrastructure played a key role:

  • The Domestic Cargo Terminal, developed by Menzies Aviation Bengaluru Private Limited and inaugurated in December 2024, became fully operational in 2025. It stands as India’s largest greenfield domestic cargo terminal in terms of physical infrastructure and capacity.
  • In April 2025, the AISATS BLR Logistics Park was launched, offering a Grade-A warehouse facility across 8.2 acres with a built-up area of 370,000 square feet, further enhancing the airport’s cargo handling ecosystem.

Looking Ahead

With a robust mix of infrastructure upgrades and expanding global connections, BLR Airport is positioning itself for continued growth in cargo operations. Plans are underway to deepen connectivity, build stronger airline partnerships, and scale up capacity — moves that will support both domestic commerce and international trade in the years ahead.
